In 2014 we experienced our first taste of South America after flying into Ushuaia, the southern most city in the world, visiting parts of the incredibly scenic Patagonia before experiencing Santiago and heading home.
This trip whet our desire to see more of the continent of South America, so we developed a plan to return again, this time with the goal to see everything we wanted to see, experience and most likely... not return.
After nearly 18 months of research and drafting an itinerary, we finalised our plans for another visit during 2018.
As an introductory outline, after visiting the UK to enjoy our granddaughter’s 2ndbirthday with her, we would start this South American experience by flying into Rio de Janerio, Brazil, travel through this country into Argentina, then Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and finally Chile.
A rough but basic overall route we intend travelling can be seen on the map below and what will follow in subsequent posts are descriptions of what was experienced in each country.
This is one of the longest and most complex travel plans we have attempted with many elements to it and something we're unlikely to repeat.
Wherever possible we found, checked, selected and used local companies where specific tours were involved and in some countries we will be on our own, using day tours to experience what specific locations have to offer.
